Your MedicsPremier System Isn't Losing You Money. Your Billing Handoff Is.

No lab installs MedicsPremier expecting it to argue with payers alone. That isn’t what it’s built for; your LIS sends the result, MedicsPremier builds the charge, and the clearinghouse takes the claim. The money leaks out in between, in the gap between what the bench performed and what actually gets billed and paid. Most lab managers don’t spot it until a denial batch lands or aging passes 90 days, and by then it isn’t a fix, it’s a write-off.

Here's where it actually happens, by platform:

TransDontics Table Preview
Where It Happens
What Happens
Real Cost
LIS Interface — Test Code to Charge Drift
Every LIS test code maps to a CPT code and fee in MedicsPremier. After the January CPT update or a new PLA code, that table often keeps the old code. Reflex and add-on tests cross the interface without a charge, and rejected HL7 charge messages sit unnoticed in an error queue.
Stale interface mapping is the largest recoverable category we find in first audits.
MedicsPremier Claim Edits — Payer Rules Left on Default
MedicsPremier gets lab claims through the clearinghouse at a high first-pass rate, but its edits still need tuning to each payer. Panel components bill beside the panel, MUE limits slip through, and definitive drug tests land in the wrong G0480 to G0483 tier.
A claim the clearinghouse accepts is not a claim the payer agreed to pay. Clean does not always mean correctly paid.
Toxicology, Genetic & Esoteric — Authorizations, Z-Codes & Frequency Limits
MedicsPremier can flag payer authorization needs, but someone still has to get the approval. Genetic tests need MolDX Z-codes, drug testing runs into payer frequency limits, and client accounts for physician offices need their own billing rules, kept separate from insurance.
This produces the denials nobody can explain. The test was billed as always; the payer's policy just moved.
Every Lab — Medical Necessity, ABNs & Timely Filing
Many tests need a signed ABN, prior authorization, or diagnosis codes that meet the LCD or NCD, and payers change those lists often. If nobody checks them against the requisition before the specimen runs, the claim goes out clean and still comes back denied, while every day of lag eats into the filing window.
Timely filing denials are avoidable almost 100% of the time. They're a process gap, not a payer decision.
None of this means MedicsPremier is doing anything wrong. It means lab billing is its own discipline, built around how your LIS and MedicsPremier actually create charges and claims, and that’s what most labs are missing.

Not sure which of these is actually happening in your claims?

That’s exactly what the free audit below is built to find out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is MedicsPremier, and how do MedicsPremier PM for Laboratories and MedicsCloud EHR fit together?

MedicsPremier is the financial and practice management system from Advanced Data Systems Corporation (ADS), a New Jersey company founded in 1977. Its laboratory edition supports clinical, toxicology, genetic, and esoteric labs with EDI, payer authorization alerts, claim tracking, and denial management, and it connects to your LIS through standard interfaces. MedicsCloud EHR adds clinical charting and analytics, and both run in the cloud or on your own servers.

Do we need a specialized billing company if our lab already uses MedicsPremier?

MedicsPremier manages charges, claims, and payment posting, but it doesn't guarantee a correctly paid claim. Most lab billing errors happen in the handoff between what the LIS sends and what actually gets billed, which is why labs on this platform benefit from MedicsPremier billing services run by people who know those patterns.

Can TransLabs Billing work with our existing MedicsPremier setup without changing our workflow?

Yes. Our onboarding maps to your existing fee schedules, interface mapping, claim edits, and client accounts rather than asking your lab to change how it already runs. Your staff keeps the screens and steps they know.

What does the free MedicsPremier billing audit include?

A review of sample claims, interface mapping, claim edit settings, and coding data from your MedicsPremier environment to find denial trends, missed charges, and coding gaps, delivered at no cost and with no obligation.

Do you handle toxicology, genetic, and esoteric lab billing on MedicsPremier?

Yes. We manage presumptive and definitive drug test coding, genetic test prior authorizations and Z-codes, frequency limits, and client-bill versus insurance splits, alongside standard commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid lab claims.

How much does it cost to outsource lab billing to a company like TransLabs?

Outsourced lab billing is usually priced as a percentage of collections rather than a flat fee, which keeps the incentive aligned; we only get paid when you get paid. The exact percentage depends on claim volume, test mix, and how much A/R cleanup is needed. We quote a specific number after the free audit, since a rate quoted without real claims data isn't worth trusting.
