You chose a platform that puts your LIS and your billing in one system. Your billing team should know how to get the most out of both. TransLabs delivers LigoLab billing services for labs working inside the LigoLab ecosystem; the LIS, the RCM module, and its rule engine; so nobody on our team is learning your system while your claims sit unpaid.

Your LigoLab Platform Isn't Losing You Money. The Handoff to Billing Is.

No lab buys LigoLab expecting the software to chase payers by itself. It accessions the specimen, releases the result, builds the billing encounter, and scrubs the claim. The money leaks out where people and rules meet: outdated codes, untuned edits, and work queues nobody has time to clear. Most lab directors don’t catch it until a denial batch lands or aging passes 90 days, and by then it isn’t a fix, it’s a write-off.

Here's where it actually happens, by platform:

TransDontics Table Preview
Where It Happens
What Happens
Real Cost
LIS Module — Test Dictionary to Billing Encounter Drift
LigoLab builds the Lab Billing Encounter from your test and procedure setup, so an outdated code there flows straight onto the claim. After the January CPT update or a new PLA code, the encounter keeps billing the old code. In pathology, missed specimen parts or extra IHC antibodies quietly cost 88305, 88342, or 88341 units.
Stale test-to-CPT setup is the largest recoverable category we find in first audits.
RCM Rule Engine — Payer Rules Left on Default
The claim scrubber ships with AMA and Medicare logic, but custom payer policies have to be written and kept current. Without them, frequency limits, MUEs, and modifier 59 or 91 rules for each commercial plan slip through.
Labs that never build out payer rules send claims that pass the scrubber and still get cut. Clean does not always mean correctly paid.
Client, Payer & Patient Billing — TC/PC Splits & Billing Routes
LigoLab can split technical and professional charges and route each encounter to the client, the payer, or the patient. Those routes only work if the client setup is right. Hospital specimens fall under the Medicare 14-day rule, and some states require pathology to be billed directly.
This produces the denials nobody can explain. The test was billed as always; the client agreement or routing rule just didn't match.
Every Lab — Medical Necessity, Work Queues & Timely Filing
Molecular and genetic tests often need prior authorization, a MolDX Z-code, or diagnosis codes that meet the LCD or NCD. Denials and holds land in LigoLab work queues, and when nobody clears them daily, the filing window closes on claims that were fixable.
Timely filing denials are avoidable almost 100% of the time. They're a process gap, not a payer decision.
None of this means LigoLab is doing anything wrong. It means lab billing is its own discipline, and a strong RCM module still needs people who tune its rules and work its queues every day, which is what most labs are missing.

Not sure which of these is actually happening in your claims?

That’s exactly what the free audit below is built to find out.

Billing That's Fluent in LigoLab; Not Learning It On Your Claims

TransLabs specializes in end-to-end revenue cycle management for clinical, pathology, and molecular labs running the LigoLab platform:

LIS-to-Encounter Charge Capture

Test dictionary and CPT audits, PLA updates, specimen and stain unit checks, and daily review of billing encounters, so every resulted test gets billed.

RCM Rule Engine Tuning

Custom payer policies, frequency and MUE rules, and modifier 59 and 91 logic written into your scrubber and tuned to your actual denial history.

Client, TC/PC & Patient Billing

Client setup review, TC/PC split accuracy, 14-day rule checks, direct-billing compliance, and clear client invoices and patient statements.

Full-Cycle Lab RCM

Eligibility checks, charge review, claims scrubbing, ERA posting, denial follow-up, and monthly reporting; all worked inside the LigoLab RCM module you already have, not a system we’re asking you to switch to.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is LigoLab, and how do its LIS and RCM modules work together?

LigoLab is a Glendale, California company founded in 2006 that makes the LigoLab LIS & RCM Operating Platform, a single system for clinical, anatomic pathology, and molecular labs. The LIS handles accessioning, testing, and results. The RCM module builds a Lab Billing Encounter for each case, sorts it by client, payer, or patient, scrubs claims against AMA, Medicare, and custom payer rules, and handles eligibility, ERA posting, statements, and dashboards.

Do we need a billing company if LigoLab already has a built-in RCM module?

LigoLab gives you strong billing tools, but tools don't write payer rules or clear denial queues on their own. Most lost revenue comes from outdated codes, untuned edits, and work left waiting, which is why labs on LigoLab benefit from LigoLab billing services run by people who know those patterns.

Can TransLabs Billing work inside our existing LigoLab setup without changing our workflow?

Yes. We work directly in your LigoLab RCM module, using your existing test setup, client accounts, and rules, rather than moving your billing to another system.

What does the free LigoLab billing audit include?

A review of sample claims, billing encounters, scrubber rules, and work queues from your LigoLab environment to find denial trends, missed charges, and coding gaps, delivered at no cost and with no obligation.

Do you handle anatomic pathology, molecular, and outreach lab billing on LigoLab?

Yes. We manage per-specimen and IHC units, TC/PC splits, molecular prior authorizations and Z-codes, 14-day rule reviews, and client-bill versus insurance routing, alongside standard commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid lab claims.

How much does it cost to outsource lab billing to a company like TransLabs?

Outsourced lab billing is usually priced as a percentage of collections rather than a flat fee, which keeps the incentive aligned; we only get paid when you get paid. The exact percentage depends on claim volume, test mix, and how much A/R cleanup is needed. We quote a specific number after the free audit, since a rate quoted without real claims data isn't worth trusting.
